Laksa Fried Rice

Fried rice is one of the simplest dishes to cook at home, but extracting flavor out of the humble ingredients to make a mean fried rice takes years to master. We have a hack: a few tablespoons Singaporean Laksa paste brings an instantly big boost of flavor. So fry away!

Laksa Fried Rice

SERVES TIME
3-4 10 mins

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil, or any other neutral oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp Homiah Singaporean Laksa Spice Kit (you can also substitute with any of the other Malaysian Red Curry or Indonesian Rendang Kits just as well for slightly different flavor profiles)
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups cooked rice, preferably rice cooked the day before and left in the refrigerator overnight 
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 stalk scallion, thinly sliced - optional 
  • 1 Thai red chilli, thinly sliced - optional

METHOD

  1. Heat up the vegetable oil in a large wok or frying pan over medium heat. Then add in the minced garlic and saute for 2 minutes, stirring often. Add in the Homiah Singaporean Laksa paste, and saute for 1 minute. 
  2. Gently push the garlic and laksa paste away from the center of the wok, and crack the egg into the center, stirring immediately. Cook it for 1 minute until just set.
  3. Turn the heat up to high, then add in the cooked rice, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Toss and stir until evenly mixed. 
  4. Finally, add in the sliced scallions and chilli, and give it a final toss to combine. 
  5. Transfer the fried rice onto a plate or bowl, and serve immediately!
